Even if you’re working to get out of debt, it’s okay to have some fun in your life. Just don’t go overboard spending money you don’t have. Here are some quick last-minute Halloween costume ideas for little or no expense. Enjoy!
Devil Dog
I loved this costume for the dog of a friend, and since she called it “Devil Dog” that’s what I’m calling it here. If you can sew a seam, you can make the cape for this dog and have some fun. You don’t need to use red, and you don’t need to call it a devil. You can dress up your dog, cat, or even your bird if you can catch it!
Iron Chef
I got this idea from an airline’s in-flight magazine and thought it was hilarious. I used the apron and oven mitt and spatula from my kitchen. I bought a chef toque at Smart and Final but you could also make this with a white dish towel – even more authentic! The “Fe” (chemical symbol for “iron”) was made with electrical tape. (The entire costume is a joke about “Iron” = “Fe” and the TV show “Iron Chef.”)
Gladiator
I thought this costume was clever and original. The gladiator costume is made from a cardboard box, cut up and duct-taped, with some aluminum foil made into the shiny parts of the armor. Also the darker parts of the “armor” were painted with spray paint. Wasn’t this a great idea? By the way, he won the “best costume” category at our company party.
I hope you enjoy these ideas and create your own Halloween fun this year!

Ha! These costumes are hilarious!
Another idea that won’t break the budget is to go as a modern Sherlock Holmes (like the character that Benedict Cumberbatch plays in BBC’s new “Sherlock”). The costume is simple: just a blue scarf, a black trench coat – and a little product for the hair to get the right Sherlock look.
If you haven’t seen the new BBC Sherlock series you should definitely check it out (click on book link then search Amazon for “Sherlock season one”).
Oh, I love that Sherlock series. Can’t wait for the next one to come out, hopefully next year.
Sherlock: Season One [Blu-ray] Here is a link to buy it!
One other place to search for the new Sherlock is on Netflix. They have it available for streaming video, and if you already subscribe then it’s included in your service. Cheap!
Good costume idea!
